The Miami, FL Drug Problem

Miami Drug Abusers most commonly refer to cocaine as “snow”, “sniff” or “coke”.  Yes, Miami has cocaine as a big threat to its residents.  Reports are saying that cocaine is causing a large amount of cocaine related deaths.  It is being smuggled into Florida via the Gulf of Mexico and then distributed for local sales and also thorough out the state.  Law Enforcement agency attributes many of the crimes committed in Dade County to cocaine addiction.  People dependant on cocaine and crack will go at any length to get their next hit of the drug.  Cocaine is known as a rich man’s drug and Miami has tourist that visit that can well afford this drug.  For those of them that can’t, there is crack and it is readily available.  The price on crack is lower than other illegal drugs so that makes it a very popular drug among teen and college student of Miami Florida.

Florida has 67 counties and it is reported that all of these counties have been affected by this drug called meth.  Meth is smoked, injected or inhaled by Miami residents.  There has been a terrific problem for the officials dealing with this METH.  Crystal Meth is a form of methamphetamine resembling shattered glass or shiny blue white rocks and is one of the most addictive drugs being abused in Miami.  METH is made in labs that are located in some neighborhoods.  It is made with different chemicals that can be explosive and cause much damage to the cook and all around the area.

There are indoor grown operations of marijuana in Miami, Florida and it has become a very lucrative business.  This homegrown marijuana is more potent and so it is distributed freely into the Miami Area.  There are organized groups that grow it sell it locally and distribute it through the rest of the U.S.  Marijuana is a potent hallucinogen and it distorts its user’s perception and mental processes.  Miami addicts will tell you that marijuana is natural and that it isn’t affecting them in negative ways.  Studies go against this and all you have to do is observe the users.  Their reaction time and their abilities are slower than others.  Next to alcohol it is the most commonly used drug in Miami.  Smoking Pot can predispose one to cancer more than if they smoked cigarettes.

Let’s talk about MDMA (ecstasy).  Because of the colleges in the Miami area and because of all the tourist that visit Miami Beach ecstasy is well known and available at almost any club.  It is known as the party drug.  It is a synthetically manufactured drug and it has the liability of being mixed with various toxins and other drugs in order to cut it and thus save the Miami drug dealers money.  When on ecstasy the user experiences impaired judgment, a false sense of love or admiration and with that they also get confusion, depression, blurry vision faintness and chills.  Users of this volatile drug may even get brain damage.  So much for the “club drug” Miami residents are really struggling with this drug because it goes into the hands of its young adults.

Prescription drugs are a problem all over the U.S. and it seems that Miami is no different.  Some are getting their pain killers and sleeping pills from their doctors.  They do a bit of “doctor shopping” and then they sell these drugs to their friends.  They also do some shopping on the internet.  Although this is illegal it has become a big problem for Miami official to monitor the actions of these companies that sell drugs online.  Prescription drugs are the reason many people go to the emergency room.  Some forget if they took their regular dose and take it again. There are some people that share these drugs with friends and perhaps these friends cannot tolerate the drug and end up in the hospital.  Miami has their share of problems with these prescription drugs.

Solutions to Drug Abuse

Miami Florida drug abuse rehabThe residents of Miami are looking for a solution to drug abuse.

What should they look for when seeking a drug rehab center?  They should bear in mind that being away from their homes is an important part of rehab.  Going to an inpatient facility will be better for them because they got on drugs to begin with because they could not solve problems.  So if they go to an outpatient center and they go home each day they will be faced with their problems each day.  So getting away from their problems will help a great deal.  Get educated on what is available.  Know that they need to get through withdrawal and detox in a safe environment.  Then they need to get life skills so they can solve their problems.  The need to know how to solve the problems they are having today and they ones they created in the past.  Help them get into a center where they are given the chance to get their personal integrity back.
