Drug Sources in Santa Barbara
The Drug Enforcement Administration reports that although the northern half of California is saturated with methamphetamine, especially in its more rural areas, heroin remains the number one drug of abuse in the San Francisco area. Crack cocaine continues to impact Oakland, and methamphetamine abuse continues in and around Sacramento.
Drugs are everywhere in Santa Barbara, California. Because of its location, the city provides easy access to the beaches. Mexican trafficking organizations work closely with Colombian suppliers and they dominate the wholesale cocaine trade. Cocaine is available in powder or crystal form; the powder form is mixed with substances such as corn starch, talcum powder, sugar, and other drugs with local anesthetic or amphetamine properties. It is absolutely one of the most dangerous drugs known to man. Once a person tries it, it is almost impossible to become free of it. It gets a physical and mental grip on its user. Physically, it stimulates key receptors inside the brain that create a sense of euphoria that the user almost immediately develops a tolerance to. Then the user has to use higher and more frequent doses in order to get the same effect. That is why it is so dangerous. The residents of Santa Barbara know how these drugs are affecting their communities. They need an effective means of rehabilitating addicts.
Law enforcement agencies in Santa Barbara, California are continually hard at work seizing Mexican Black Tar heroin. The increased availability of high-purity heroin that can be snorted allows a new, younger population to use heroin without a syringe or needle. Drug treatment specialists state that these new heroin users ingest large amounts of heroin and become quickly addicted. When heroin is taken the user gets a surge of sensation called a “rush.” The user may feel a warm sensation on his skin and a dry mouth. He may also experience vomiting and severe itching. After these first effects, the user will get drowsy; this will go on for several hours, and his breathing and heart rate will slow. Just hours after all these effects decrease, the user begins to crave more—and if he doesn’t get what he craves, he will go into withdrawal.
Methamphetamine is a serious drug threat in Santa Barbara, California. Mexican organizations continue to dominate the production and distribution of high-quality meth, while other domestic trafficking groups operate smaller labs in the city. There are secret labs throughout the city, and these can be of great danger to neighborhoods. Meth is a white crystalline drug that gives the user gets a false sense of happiness and well-being along with a rush of self- confidence, hyperactivity, and energy. The meth abuser has a hard time getting off the drug because an ordinary day is not usually full of such high levels of happiness and well-being. Meth over-exerts users’ bodies, so their health deteriorates quickly. Santa Barbara residents know that that has to be a solution for helping addicts get off these drugs.

A Downward Spiral
An addict is involved in what is called a downward spiral. This is a path leading further and further into depression, hopelessness, and feeling out-of-control. Now is the time to do something—before the addicted person winds up in jail or dead of an overdose or accident. In the addict’s past there have been many failed attempts to overcome addiction, whose lack of success only pushed the addict further down the spiral. In the city of Santa Barbara, there is an increased need for effective drug and alcohol rehab and addiction treatment centers, as drug and alcohol use continues to escalate. What is needed and wanted is a means of drug treatment that not only takes care of the physical addiction, but finds the underlying reason why a person turns to drugs. Once the underlying cause of abuse is known, it’s possible to free the person from drug addiction. The addict needs a genuinely effective drug rehab treatment center. Get him to a center where they are not on a time schedule, and not using other drugs to get him off the original one being abused. The addict needs a reliable, proven program which, once completed, makes his addiction is a thing of the past and enables him to live a full, productive life free of the grip of drugs or alcohol.
Far-Reaching Effects
In the city of Santa Barbara, when a person starts to abuse drugs the first thing that he hurts is himself. Most drugs are very damaging to the body, so, inevitably, the abuser is not taking good care of his body. He usually doesn’t get enough rest and he doesn’t eat well. Then the abuser usually starts to affect his family. He may lie to them about where he is going, and may eventually he steals from them because he needs more money to pay for his next fix. All the while, the abuser attempts to justify his behavior to himself and others. This causes more heartache in the family, as they cannot figure out why the abuser can’t just stop taking drugs. The abuser then starts to create problems at work; he may be late several times a month and will not produce well while on the job. This can escalate into criminal activities like breaking into businesses in order to obtain still more money. The law enforcement agencies of the city of Santa Barbara have to get involved then. These far-reaching effects go on and on. So when an abuser takes that first drink or first hit of a drug, he is not taking into account the extent of the damage he will do.
What Kind of Treatment Center for Your Loved One
California has many different types of drug rehab and treatment facilities. They use a variety of techniques and methods. There is the Twelve-Step program, relapse prevention, one-on-one counseling, drug rehabilitation, behavior modification, support groups, and outpatient drug rehab programs. When a person you love wants to get help, the options can be extremely confusing. There are many attempts being made in Santa Barbara to meet the rehabilitation needs of the drug addict but statistics show that the success rate is low. One of the things that residents of Santa Barbara need to consider is what they are trying to accomplish when they bring their loved ones to a treatment center. It should be remembered that the addict got into this drug because he was having problems. His ability to solve these problems was not very good, so he began using drugs as a solution. Each time things got tough for him, he would relapse and go somewhere to use. This could manifest itself as covertly as his saying, “Well, this day was really tough, so I’m going to meet the guys at the local pub.” So when you are looking for a treatment center, make sure that you get your loved one to a center that gives the addict some real-life skills, like communication. Then he can handle his present problems and all the ones from his past. An outpatient facility may not be the best solution for the addict. He most likely has numerous problems with people and things around him. So when he is detoxing and withdrawing, the last thing he needs is to be reminded of all of these potential disturbances each day. Residents of Santa Barbara know that recovery will proceed much more smoothly for him later when he gets into an inpatient facility, having been treated full-time first. Granted, inpatient care may take him away from his home base and jobs for a period of time, but we are talking about getting your loved one clean and sober for the rest of his life. We are helping this human being get back into his family and into the community of the city of Santa Barbara, California, as a productive, responsible, and loving person.
